The concept of this album is supposed to be a challange of him how he does color well known standards by his unique arrangement. He plays familiar tunes like Herbie Hancock's "Watermelon Man","A Night In Tunisia", and "St.Thomas" in this album. In terms of this, the point of this album is more likely for focusing his play and arrangement than his own composition. Even though Dave Weckl doesn't appear in this album, supporting musicians are great members and are very good match for Camilo's high-speed latin piano playing. "Watermelon Man" in this album remains taste of the original and shows his calm piano play which has ever been hardly heard. In "A Night In Tunisia", you will be sure to have a refreshing feeling brought by his piano that brings you an image of spectacles rapidly moving along. This is, if I must say, like flying over Tunisian sky in an aerobatics air plane :-) The point of his music attracting me the best is his splendid arrangement which brushes up originals to the last degree. For example, AiartMoreila's "Tombo" in Michel's previous album is very simple music in the original state, but he did add several his unique ideas to the original then made it much more sophisticated music. He also redesigned "St.Thomas" as well. Comparing with "Tombo", he made less changes to "St.Thomas", but it shows very smart arrangement and very interesting ideas. Although this article has focused on his speed play, this album contains gentle tracks as well. His piano solo is like telling a story played smoothly and freely like floating. If it were not for great sence and understanding of musical insight, this incredibly wonderful sound couldn't be made. And adding to all things above, his unique and splendid originality must be the point of his music! Generaly speaking, there are a lot of music fans who only pay attention to musicians' "speed play" or "complicated technique". But the most important thing for evaluating a musician is how unique and how original his/her idea is, I think. In terms of that, Camilo plays his music by his own idea and in his language in this album. This album was so wonderful and fantastic that did blow my brain away!
